The New "Four Horsemen"
I had a feeling I would be talking about a lower market in the "weekly wrap-up" and my gut feeling proved me right. It was a terrible week for the market if you were bullish (although the Gold stocks did well) as the bears came out in force to push the Dow to its lowest level in nearly two years. Four words for you leading the debacle: Oil, Banks, Housing and the Dollar. These are the real "Four Horsemen" of the market right now.

AMEX MEMBERS APPROVE ACQUISITION OF AMEX BY NYSE

NYSE Euronext (NYX) and the American Stock Exchange (Amex) announced that members of The Amex Membership Corporation (AMC) approved the adoption of the merger agreement between AMC and NYSE Euronext and certain of their subsidiaries. The Securities and Exchange Commission must still approve the rule changes related to the transaction before it becomes final.

Sector Watch: Shipping Stocks
Shipping stocks went the way of the market capping a two day sell-off as traders were nervous holding positions ahead of a holiday weekend. The Baltic Dry Index, which measures dry bulk shipping rates, had hit record highs earlier in the week. The index trades on the London exchange and reached 11,783 before falling back to 11,465 on Friday.

Deal Or No Deal?
Microsoft (MSFT, $28.40, up $0.88) is reportedly willing to pay up to $32-$33 for Yahoo (YHOO, $26.81, down $0.60) in what may be its last attempt to get Yahoo's stockholders to pressure the board to sell. Yahoo's board wants a deal done in the "upper $30s." The original deal was for $29 a share.
