The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced that 281,722,376 total options contracts changed hands in April, continuing the high-growth trend experienced over the last several years and representing a 43.09 percent increase over April 2007 volume. Average daily volume for the month was 12,805,562 contracts.

The OIC Announces March Options Trading Grew 23%

The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced that total options trading volume in March reached 282,000,233 contracts, a 23.36 percent increase over the year-ago level of 228,595,638 contracts.

Total options daily trading volume for 2008 is averaging 14,100,012 contracts, a 35.7 percent increase over the 10,390,711 contracts averaged for the same period in 2007.

The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced that options trading volume in February rose 33.4 percent over the same period last year as 244,419,633 contracts changed hands during the month.

The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced that new annual volume record was set in 2007 with a total of 2,862,826,218 contracts changing hands, surpassing 2006’s record by 41.18%. Equity options volume reached 2,592,102,961 contracts, exceeding the 1,844,181,918 total equity options volume contracts traded in 2006 by 40.56% percent.

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced that equity option volume in November jumped 52.36% when 41,047,601 contracts traded compared to the same year-ago period when 26,941,072 contracts traded. Volume was up 51.70 % year-to-date.
